With the route taken care of, you can concentrate on more important things - like enjoying every twist and turn along the way. Our optional onboard navigation system, controlled via iDrive, uses GPS satellites, a digital map and, where available, Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) to guide you to your destination. Choose the fastest route, the shortest route or the one that avoids traffic. Where available, traffic information is received by a separate radio tuner and then displayed on the navigation system. You don't have to listen to a specific radio station, or even have the radio on, to receive updates every few minutes. And you can see everything clearly on the large, high-resolution screen.

BMW Ultimate Service is included at no charge with all new 2008 BMWs for the first four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Bluetooth wireless technology connects mobile phones enabled with Bluetooth to a vehicle for hands-free calling. With the use of a compatible Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, a driver can place and answer calls, and browse and select phonebook contacts from their phone, simply by using the multifunction steering wheel controls and radio keys.

Vehicles equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology are shipped fully activated, and only require the new owner to complete a simple one-time pairing procedure with a compatible Bluetooth phone. Up to four paired phones can be stored in the car's memory system.

This system allows you to dial, add or delete stored telephone numbers hands-free. It can also activate numerous navigation system functions and record up to five minutes of notes. The Voice Command button must be pressed before each use, so conversations won't accidentally activate the phone or other systems.

iPod/iPhone USB Integrated System

When we wanted to connect an MP3 player directly to our vehicle's sound system, we went straight to the experts at Apple. Together, we created the world's first seamless integrated system of iPod and automobile. Just plug your iPod or iPhone into the adapter accessory. Control the volume and your playlists through the multifunction steering wheel, while your iPod or iPhone stays out of view with a constant flow of power. There's also a convenient, standard auxiliary input jack, which allows you to play any MP3 through the audio system.

Logic7 Audio System

It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. Unlike traditional stereo systems, Logic7 routes two-channel (stereo) sound through a seven-channel playback matrix to create 360-degree Surround Sound. The anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player audio system includes 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Radio Data System (RDS), Auto-Store and 3-channel FM diversity antenna, and it displays MP3 song title and artist.

HD Radio

There are over 1,300 nationwide AM and FM stations with optional HD Radio technology. Meanwhile, over 600 stations also include multicasting options, displaying the artist and track names of songs as they play.

The 4.8-liter V-8 engine produces 360 horsepower and 350 lb-ft torque at 3400-3800 rpm. The balanced and virtually unrivaled performance it delivers is achieved through ultra-precise engineering and advanced technologies including Valvetronic and Double-VANOS.

Valvetronic

The motivation behind our patented Valvetronic technology was simple: to enable the engine to breathe more easily. Our engineers believed that this would allow for increased power output and optimized fuel efficiency, and they were right. It was accomplished by varying the lift height of the valves to regulate intake instead of using a traditional throttle. At lower engine loads, the valves only open a small amount, and at full power they open completely.

Active Roll Stabilization

Active Roll Stabilization is an active suspension control system designed to reduce body-roll, or lean, while cornering. This improves the vehicle"s suspension geometry (the degree of wheel angle relative to vertical).

With BMW Assist, you have a direct connection to the BMW Assist Response Center, any time, day or night. If you're in an accident, need roadside assistance or have a customer service question, just push a button from within your vehicle to speak with a response specialist. If you're in a serious accident, crash sensors will trigger the system for you. And, if your car is stolen, you can access stolen vehicle recovery services by phone.

In addition, BMW Assist includes: TeleService, an exclusive BMW feature that allows your car to communicate its service needs directly to your preferred BMW Center.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Calling, which links a compatible Bluetooth® enabled mobile phone to your vehicle for hands-free calling. You can make and answer calls, and browse and select phonebook contacts using steering wheel controls, radio keys or voice commands.

Night Vision

Night Vision is BMW's amazing system that lets you see pedestrians or animals up to 328 yards ahead - in the dark. Using an infrared camera built into the front of the vehicle, you will be able to see potential road hazards displayed on your navigation system monitor, and avoid them well before they are visible to the naked eye. This optional feature will make night driving far more pleasurable and worry-free.

Run-Flat Tires

These self-supporting tires with integrated reinforcements allow tires that have experienced a loss of air pressure to maintain their shape and full use. In fact, you can drive on a flat for up to 150 miles at reduced speeds, so you don't have to stop in an unsafe area to change a tire or wait for roadside assistance.

* Cars with run-flat tires do not come equipped with a spare tire. Due to low profile tires, please note that wheels, tires and suspension parts are more susceptible to road hazard and consequential damages.

All-Season Traction (AST)

All-Season Traction, part of Dynamic Stability Control, provides better stability and control in slippery road conditions all year long - from packed snow, ice, rain- or oil-slicked roads, and sandy or rough surfaces. The system continually processes data from the anti-lock braking wheel-speed sensors. Any time a rear "drive" wheel begins to lose traction, the system modifies the engine's electronic throttle and ignition timing to reduce torque. It also can act on each rear brake individually or simultaneously, as needed, to bring wheelspin under control.

Park Distance Control, front and rear

So intuitive, it helps you see things you normally can't. Park Distance Control uses eight sensors - four in the front, four in the rear - to measure exactly how far you are from other vehicles and unseen objects when parking. As your bumper approaches a stationary object, the image on the iDrive screen changes and beeping becomes faster, turning into a constant tone when the distance is less than 12 inches.
