Megacity takes the sustainability helm
The future green BMW subdivision is slowly taking shape, with the mysterious MegaCity Vehicle at its helm. Described by BMW as the “next premium” vehicle, the Megacity family will be the catalyst to an all-new world of premium electric vehicles for BMW. Focusing on maximum sustainability, the entire process, from production to product, will take the most eco-friendly path possible.
As the first BMW to use an extensive amount of carbon fiber in its design (with plans to produce mass quantities of the stuff at the new BMW Lake Moses, WA facility), the Megacity is shaping up to be a genre-busting idea that will assess the first “premium” label to the eco-friendly crowd of existing vehicles.
“Of course the car should also show its new skills in the design, including being lightweight and safe, as well as offering the driving fun that you can have with an electric powered car,’ says Van Hooydonk in an interview with Wallpaper. ‘We want to give our customers a small island of wellbeing – an island of silence – for their mobility. Therefore you will find also a totally new type of interior that gives exactly this feeling to the driver and passengers.’
The Megacity is a creative, exciting example of integrating sustainability into the auto industry. BMW looks to create an entire sub-brand family of eco-friendly transportation, and the things they learn along the way will no doubt benefit both the environment and the industry as a whole.
