A Motor Trend editor just got his first taste of the performance a BMW 335d diesel sedan can deliver, and he is a convert. Like most of us, he had the assumption that diesels are still the economic, but lumbering beasts they were a decade ago. Economic, yes, but boring as well.
A 120-mile road-trip proved otherwise. A couple of hours behind the wheel of BMW’s performance diesel, and it did wonders for his outlook on diesel performance vehicles.
“Its handling is as good, if not slightly better, than any other E92 3 Series. Torque is everywhere, instantly available to rock the 335d back on its haunches at the stab of the pedal.”
The fact that he drove 80 – 85 miles per hour and pushed the engine and handling to their peaks at times, but still managed to actually increase the fuel efficiency of the car over a couple of hours of thrilling driving was impressive to him. Handing the keys over, he had this to say: “The BMW 335d is the best car I’ve driven in a very long time. In fact, the 335d might just be the best car on the road.”
