With the route taken care of, you can concentrate on more important things - like enjoying every twist and turn along the way. Our optional onboard navigation system, controlled via iDrive, uses GPS satellites, a digital map and, where available, Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) to guide you to your destination. Choose the fastest route, the shortest route or the one that avoids traffic. Where available, traffic information is received by a separate radio tuner and then displayed on the navigation system. You don't have to listen to a specific radio station, or even have the radio on, to receive updates every few minutes. And you can see everything clearly on the large, high-resolution screen.

Comfort Access system offers an even greater degree of convenience: keyless access to your car. Simply carrying the remote key in a pocket allows you to unlock the doors by touching the door handle. You can also turn the engine on or off by pressing the Start/Stop button* without first inserting the remote key.

*Foot must be on brake or, with manual transmission, must also depress the clutch in order to start.

BMW Ultimate Service is included at no charge with all new 2008 BMWs for the first four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. M sport seats feature more pronounced side bolsters designed to provide excellent lateral support during high performance driving. Also includes manual thigh support adjustment, three-stage heating and four-way lumbar support.

Our optional Head-Up Display* gives you the ability to see relevant information such as speed and navigation directions, without the need to look down and lose sight of what's ahead of you. The readout appears just beyond the windshield, in your line of vision. It is clear, easy to read, and even responds to light, adjusting its brightness for daytime, nighttime or hazy conditions, so driving is more enjoyable. * Not available with green band windshield.

Logic7 Audio System

It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. Unlike traditional stereo systems, Logic7 routes two-channel (stereo) sound through a seven-channel playback matrix to create 360-degree Surround Sound. The anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player audio system includes 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Radio Data System (RDS), Auto-Store and 3-channel FM diversity antenna, and it displays MP3 song title and artist.

iPod/iPhone USB Integrated System

When we wanted to connect an MP3 player directly to our vehicle's sound system, we went straight to the experts at Apple. Together, we created the world's first seamless integrated system of iPod and automobile. Just plug your iPod or iPhone into the adapter accessory. Control the volume and your playlists through the multifunction steering wheel, while your iPod or iPhone stays out of view with a constant flow of power. There's also a convenient, standard auxiliary input jack, which allows you to play any MP3 through the audio system.

HD Radio

HD Radio broadcasting is the new, digital standard for AM and FM radio stations. Across the United States, over 1300 AM/FM stations have upgraded to HD Radio technology, with over 600 of the FM stations also offering new, HD Radio-only "multicast" channels, vastly increasing programming choice. HD Radio stations are broadcast in crystal-clear digital sound and offer innovative data services, such as song artist and title scrolling across the screen. All-Season Traction - Variable M Differential Lock

All-Season Traction, part of Dynamic Stability Control, provides better stability and control in slippery road conditions, while the Variable M Differential Lock delivers more traction and power coming out of turns.

Double VANOS

Double VANOS allows the engine to "steplessly" choose valve timing for both intake and exhaust camshafts. Electronically controlled in response to engine speed, load and temperature, Double VANOS maximizes engine response, efficiency and emission control. The benefit: more low- to medium-speed torque for strong acceleration and added flexibility for better highway performance, plus a quieter, smoother engine at idle.

7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox

The advanced 7-speed SMG transmission with DRIVELOGIC was developed to make the best use of our high-revving V-10 engine. Adapted for street use from BMW Motorsport technology, SMG allows for a true manual transmission without a clutch pedal, allowing the driver to keep the accelerator depressed through upshifts. An electrohydraulic system shifts the gears electronically, without any mechanical connection, for shift speeds as fast as 80 milliseconds - far faster than even the most experienced driver could achieve using a clutch pedal.

5.0-liter, V-10 engine, 500 hp

High performance from high-speed engines: that's the philosophy of BMW M. This compact, high-revving, V-10 power unit develops enormous thrust and muscle that's always on tap. At 5.0 liters of displacement and 500 horsepower, the V-10 produces 100 horsepower per liter - a remarkable feat for a naturally aspirated production engine. And its power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per each eight pounds is a figure more representative of a racecar than one you'd have in your driveway.

With BMW Assist, you have a direct connection to the BMW Assist Response Center, any time, day or night. If you're in an accident, need roadside assistance or have a customer service question, just push a button from within your vehicle to speak with a response specialist. If you're in a serious accident, crash sensors will trigger the system for you. And, if your car is stolen, you can access stolen vehicle recovery services by phone.

In addition, BMW Assist includes: TeleService, an exclusive BMW feature that allows your car to communicate its service needs directly to your preferred BMW Center.

Park Distance Control, front and rear

So intuitive, it helps you see things you normally can't. Park Distance Control uses eight sensors - four in the front, four in the rear - to measure exactly how far you are from other vehicles and unseen objects when parking. As your bumper approaches a stationary object, the image on the iDrive screen changes and beeping becomes faster, turning into a constant tone when the distance is less than 12 inches.

Adaptive Brake Lights

Bumper-to-bumper collisions most often occur when the driver behind you didn't realize how hard you were braking. Our Adaptive Brake Lights help eliminate that scenario by emitting a larger, brighter light the more force you use. It allows those behind you to clearly see whether you're lightly tapping the brakes to slow down or applying full force for a sudden stop.

Dynamic Stability Control

Nasty weather. Terrible road conditions. A deer crossing. When a driver loses control, there's usually more than one factor involved. Using built-in sensors to continually monitor multiple variables - such as speed, steering angle, yaw, brake pressure and traction - our Dynamic Stability Control system can detect and, more importantly, help correct the loss of wheel traction immediately. All of which helps to keep you in control, no matter what the circumstances.

Head Protection System (HPS)

BMW's Head Protection System is an inflatable tubular structure to protect the heads of a vehicle's front and rear seat occupants. Operating in conjunction with the side airbags, the system provides front seat occupants with outstanding protection in the case of severe side impact. It helps protect the head from hitting the side window and being hit by objects penetrating the side window.
